Design Engineer
- Remote, EMEA-friendly hours
- Full-time
- Small team at SpanDock
You design in code. You can take a dense screen of sessions, tokens and costs and make it calm, fast and obvious, and you won't call it done until it's right on a phone, with a keyboard and with a screen reader.
What you'll do
- Design and build the SpanDock dashboard, the desktop app's screens and this website, from sketch to production.
- Turn raw telemetry into charts, tables and stories people can act on.
- Own our design system: tokens, components, motion and the illustrations Byte and Spander live in.
- Prototype quickly with AI tools, then polish by hand.
- Make every screen accessible: keyboard, contrast, reduced motion and screen readers.
What we're looking for
- A portfolio of interfaces you designed and built yourself.
- Strong HTML, CSS and React, and a feel for typography and spacing.
- You sweat the details nobody asked for, and you know which ones matter.
- You use AI tools in your design and build loop, and you're curious where they go next.
Nice to have (never a reason not to apply)
- Data visualisation.
- Motion design.
- You've drawn a dog before.
How we'll get to know each other
- 1The challenge. A 15-minute puzzle in a terminal in your browser. No sign-up, no recordings, no trick questions.
- 2Apply. Your name, a link to your work and a few lines on why you. No cover letter needed.
- 3A first conversation. 30 minutes with the founder: what you're looking for, and what we're building.
- 4Build or pitch together. Engineers pair with us on a small real task; sales candidates walk us through a deal they're proud of.
- 5Meet the team, then an offer. A relaxed call with the people you'd work with. We aim to decide within a week of it.
