Process inventory

Process inventory shows which AI tools run on your team's computers, including the ones that send no telemetry. While it is on, each computer sends its server a list of its running processes every few minutes.

Process inventory is on the Enterprise plan, and in the 30-day trial. It is off by default.

What is collected

You choose one of two levels:

  • AI tools: only AI tools and their helper processes.
  • All processes: every process on the computer.

For each process, a snapshot holds:

  • the program's name and path (home folders shortened to ~);
  • its process ID and its parent's;
  • the operating system account and when it started;
  • its CPU and memory use;
  • the AI tool it belongs to, if any.

It never holds command-line arguments, environment variables, window titles or open files. SpanDock doesn't read them.

Turn it on

  1. On the server's dashboard, open Clients → Client defaults, or one computer's settings.
  2. Set Process inventory to AI tools or All processes, and choose how often computers report (every 5 minutes by default).
  3. The first time, confirm that the people concerned are informed. SpanDock asks once.

The person can't turn it off on their computer. While it is on, their SpanDock shows a notice on every page saying what is reported and why.

Where to see it

  • People & computers → Processes shows the AI tools running across your computers, and how many computers report.
  • Each computer's Processes tab shows its latest snapshot.
  • The AI enablement report (Premium and up) uses it to show the AI tools people run, not only the ones that send telemetry.

Snapshots are kept on your server, for as long as you set, and never sent to https://spandock.com.
