Introducing the SpanDock blog

What the SpanDock blog will publish: product news, step-by-step guides and researched articles on AI coding tools, MCP, cost and security.

The SpanDock blog is live. It is where we will publish SpanDock news, practical guides to running a SpanDock server, and researched articles on the AI coding tools that developers now use every day.

What SpanDock is

SpanDock is a self-hosted observability hub for AI coding tools. Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot and other tools send it OpenTelemetry, and it shows every session, tool call, model call, token and dollar on a dashboard, stores it on your own machine, and can forward it to the observability tools you already use.

If you are new to it, the getting started guide takes you from download to your first session on the dashboard.

What we will publish

The blog has three kinds of articles.

  • SpanDock news. Releases, new features and company news. These say what changed and link to the docs for the details.
  • How-to guides. Step-by-step walkthroughs of doing something with a SpanDock server and its clients, such as setting up the MCP gateway or putting budgets on model spend. They follow the docs step by step.
  • Researched articles on AI coding tools and agents, MCP and tool use, the cost of models and how to choose between them, governance, and security. These are written for engineering managers, platform teams and security teams who have to decide what to adopt and how to control it.

Researched articles cite their sources. Each one links to the announcements, advisories, papers and documentation it relies on where it uses them, and lists them all at the end of the page, so you can check the claims for yourself.

How to follow it

The blog has an RSS feed at /blog/rss.xml. Add it to your feed reader to see new articles as they are published. Articles are also grouped by category and by tag, so you can follow only the topics you care about.

The docs remain the reference

The blog explains and gives context; the documentation is still the reference for how the product works. When an article and the docs differ, the docs are right, and we will correct the article.

Three pages are a good place for a new reader to start:

  • Getting started: install, pick a mode, configure a tool and see the dashboard.
  • MCP gateway: one governed MCP server on every computer, in front of your organisation's connectors.
  • Model proxy and budgets: decide which model answers each call, and keep each person within a budget.
